Letter of Intent Guidelines

Investigators interested in being considered for funding should submit a Letter of Intent (LOI) by May 15, 2013, at 5:00PM CST.

Click here to submit your LOI.

This submission should include the following:

  • A file containing a completed version of the LOI Cover Sheet Template
[click here to download the LOI Cover Sheet Template (.docx)]
Among other things, this cover sheet will allow you to indicate the project title and to provide contact information for the principal investigator and up to five proposed co-investigators. This cover sheet is meant to enable blind review of the proposals, so this should be the only page on which information about the investigators’ identity appears.

  • In a file separate from the cover sheet, a project description not to exceed 3 pages (not including references) of single-spaced, English text with 1-inch (2.54-cm) margins. Font size is restricted to no smaller than 11-point and no larger than 12-point. Font type must be Arial, Calibri, or Times New Roman. File format should be Microsoft Word (.doc or .docx) or Adobe Acrobat (.pdf). Only LOIs that conform to these requirements, and that provide a thorough description of the proposed project will be considered. Casual inquiries are not invited.

In terms of content, this project description should describe the proposed work concretely and in detail, and should indicate clearly why the proposed work promises significant contributions to the science and/or real-world experience of purpose. To this end, the description should include (1) a title for the proposed project, (2) a description of the proposed project activities with information on the basic or applied behavioral science research methods that will be employed , (3) an outline of the proposed outputs (e.g., datasets, manuscripts, educational or training tools, workshops, op-eds) and expected outcomes (i.e., short-run and long-run implications) of the project, (4) an explanation of how the proposed project fits with the goals of this competition, and (5) an outline of the budget required to complete the research (no more than 15% of the proposed budget may cover indirect costs).

Once all LOIs have been received, the selection committee will invite full proposals for those submissions that best align with the aims and standards of this initiative.
